CBS, Pepsi Create Video Ad to Run in Print

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

CBS and Pepsi will tout 'Monday to the Max' in a video ad set to run in some copies of Entertainment Weekly.

Great read on www.adage.com by Brian Steinberg.

A creative genious at Omnicom has designed a paper thin video player insert that will run in Entertainment Weekly. Whoever said a print ad can’t be interactive?

This is awesome. Although it will only be available to subscribers in LA and NY, this is a great example that we have not thought of it all yet.

When Entertainment Weekly readers open the magazine to the ad pages, they will see a small screen flicker on and start to load a video. A brief segment featuring actors from “The Big Bang Theory” will explain how to use the player, while talking about features from Entertainment Weekly and the different video selections a reader can choose. By pressing one of five different buttons, readers can watch a video montage from “How I Met Your Mother,” a montage from “Two and a Half Men,” a humorous ad for Pepsi Max, a sneak preview of “Accidentally on Purpose” or a preview of new CBS dramas “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “The Good Wife” and “Three Rivers.”

Secret Society

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Since my new roommate and I mainly communicate with each other via Twitter and/or at Ad2 meetings, I thought I would take it up a notch and blog about this cool website she shared with the world today.  It still doesn’t make me want to drink Sherry, but I love how the website is created.

Thanks @taryn00!

A little bribe never hurt anyone…Until you tweet

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Ran across a tweet that intrigued me enough to click on it, yes that happens a few times, and it opened up a can of worms that I just had to dig into…

The tweet I got was: iwearyourshirt I like @woot 10x more after reading this blog post about getting their ad $ http://tr.im/sOkz

I cracked up hysterically and realized if I ever want a client, I’m going to need to know their downfall whether it be chocolate, Lakers tickets, pizza or Manolo Blahniks. Just in case there’s a tie between someone else’s proposal and mine…I’ll have the shoe in with my bribe (which I will call ‘a gift out of kindness’ publicly).

It seems that ad exec Mike Wolfsohn exposed in his blog how business gets done in the ad game: with bribes of junk food and booze.  Wolfsohn entered a proposal for Zappos and when they weren’t picked he started to look into things. It seems that Zappos decided to thank all the agencies who entered their proposals and especially thank the ones that brought them pizza, ice cream, etc. Let’s just say Wolfsohn wasn’t too happy about the way things were done: read here. Now you should also read Woot’s response to Wolfsohn’s blog..too funny.

Woot blogged about the “16 Things To Send Woot If You Want Our Advertising Business“.
My favorites included:
2. One of those potatoes that looks like a U.S. president.
10. An analysis of the optimal direction to direct our divisional synergies towards future implementations achieving corporate-wide value-adds. Oh, and some more napkins.
And  in reference to what started the entire purpose of the blog: 16. An angry blog post publicly calling us out for ignoring your dumb proposal.
